Can we follow our own paths or are we conditioned by other’s fears and insecurities? What if it events do not turn out in our favor? Can we accept that life is constant change, or do we stay stuck in the monotony of what we are told to do and who we are told to be? What about our own views on what is best for us?
These are some of the ideas and questions presented by Speed Of Life on their latest CD ‘Catalyst’. In the first song, “Caught Inside”, founder John Zay sings about being trapped in a negative mindset that has no visible escape. When a painful situation catches us off guard the tendency is to feel jaded, even if the outcome is in our best interest. The lyric tries to reconcile if resisting this headspace keeps us from growing and questions it’s validity as a gateway to higher learning.
In “Father’s Daughter”, John Zay examines how those closest to us often shape our beliefs about love. When a new person enters our life will they meet our ideal image for a relationship or can we allow them be who they are and amaze us? While others may have an influence, it is important to remember that we ultimately shape our own reality. And sometimes we may need to reach out for help. In the song “Help Me”, we realize that we are not alone in asking the Universe for direction and can even feel empowered by stepping into a place of intuitive guidance.
Speed Of Life is not just a band; it’s a way of life. Their questions are engaging because they ask us to choose what truly works for us in our own lives. We can live according to other people’s rules or we can step into our own desire and purpose in pursuit of our dreams and aspirations. The group poses this challenge to its listeners: Be your own person. Choose from your heart what is true for you as they strive to live by what is true for them.
